I know it's taken for ages to blog about PHPNW11, but I've been absolutely snowed under with work, and it's been on my later list. However, I've just seen last years blog on here, which I copied over from my D6 site, and that one seems like that was only yesterday. So I'd better get on with it before it's PHPNW2012!
I was buzzin with eager anticipation before it, and it exceeded my expectations all the way. The keynote "How to Stand on the Shoulders of Giants : Ian Barber" had me proper stoked, rip rarin' and ready to go: inspiring and inspired!
Magic Behind the Numbers - Software Metrics In Practice : Sebastian Marek was very informative and kept me engaged, and has led me to re-think about how, and why we use metrics in our projects.
I would record, series link and keep any program by Derick Rethans if it was on TV, and PHP Extensions, Why & What? : Derick Rethans didn't let me down. A truly entertaining supremo geek who is kind enough to share his big knowledge with us ;-)
Had a great lunch, and engaged in some top conversations with the strangers at my table: good conversation can be hard to come by!
Tough spot after lunch with my belly full of food and a couple of scoops of Stella, but Scaling Your Development Team : Scott MacVicar was also brilliant show business geekery at its best. Scott has a great presentation style, on a par with Derick for entertainment factor. Like commits to Facebook on stage is also cool, as well as a good look at how the biggest boys do things.
Although Estimation or 'How To Dig Your Own Grave' : Rowan Merewood was riddled with gremlins, i got some genuine good advice about how i have been digging my own grave for years. Sorted out some changes in the way we do things back at work because of this, so cheers!
By the time I attended DocBlox: Your Source Matters : Mike van Riel my brain was pressing against my skull and I could hear short circuits crackling. But Mike did pitch up well and kept me alert throughout, and I will be having a better look at DoxBlox later ;-)
Free Bar = Open Sauce: What else can I say, apart from next year I'm gonna stay over so I don't have to rush for that notorious last train!
On Sunday, I attended Social Media Integration : Matthew Kellett and was engaged by this not to demanding presentation, very informative, and thankfully not too technical for a groggy Sunday Morning. Then it was Using URL design to create better web sites : Walter Ebert. Enjoyed it, and same again didn't find it too taxing, but I do like a dirty url now and again, lol!
Waiting to see the video of Teaching (mostly) PHP : Clinton Ingrams, which is what I would have attended, if my daughter wasn't that selfish as to have a swimming competition: some people! I will be watching all the vidz as they become available, because that's my only criticism there was too much and I wanted it all. Oh, and I spent a load of money on books, but they are very good books, mmmmm, i love 'em ;-)
Looking forward to next year!
